***The Way Of The Faithful*** OUR FATHERS’ WISDOM By Rev Arowosafe

_Day 3: The Silence of an Elder_

 *The Proverb:*
_”Silence is also speech in the mouth of an elder.”_

 *What Our Fathers Meant:*
In traditional council, an elder does not react to every provocation or join every argument. When an elder chooses silence, it communicates weight, discernment, disapproval, or deep reflection without a single word being uttered.

 *In the World of Today:*
We often feel the need to defend ourselves immediately against every criticism, tweet, or slight. But maturity knows that not every action deserves a reaction.

– Refusing to engage in a toxic social media debate—that is elder silence.
– Allowing an angry partner or colleague to vent without matching their rage—that is elder silence.
– Knowing the truth but allowing time to vindicate you rather than arguing—that is elder silence.

Your silence can speak louder than a thousand words of defense.

*Scripture Connection:* _”Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise; and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.” — Proverbs 17:28_

 *Reflection Question:*
What argument or conflict in your life today requires you to exercise the dignified silence of an elder?

_Day 4: The Consequences of Malice_

 *The Proverb:*
” _A child who says his mother will not sleep, he too will not sleep._ ”

 *What Our Fathers Meant:*
Our fathers taught that when you set out to cause trouble or distress for another person, you tie your own peace and destiny to that conflict. Malice and sabotage rob the perpetrator of rest long before they ruin the victim.

 *Today’s Twist:*
Restraint means keeping your heart free from vengeance and malicious plotting.
– Staying up late thinking of ways to undermine a colleague at work—you are losing sleep.
– Holding grudges and plotting revenge against an ex-partner—you are losing sleep.
– Toxic office politics or family feuds where you consume your energy trying to destroy another—you are losing sleep.

Malice costs you your own peace of mind.

_Scripture Connection: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” — Romans 12:21_

 *Reflection Question:*
Is there anyone whose downfall you are secretly hoping for or orchestrating? How is that bitterness robbing you of your own peace?

Grace and peace,
Rev. Samuel Arowosafe
