The Ekiti State Government has announced that its monthly environmental sanitation exercise will hold on Saturday, 30th November, 2024, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The theme for this month, “Clean Environment, Healthy Living,” highlights the link between cleanliness and better public health outcomes.
The State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin-Aluko Ajisafe has called on residents to actively participate in the cleanup exercise. She emphasized that market women should tidy their shops and stalls during the Thursday market sanitation, while government workers are expected to clean their offices and surroundings on Friday.
To accommodate the ongoing 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (External), movement across the state will not be restricted during the sanitation period.
According to her, the adjustment was to ensure that candidates, supervisors and officials reach their examination centers without being challenged by the law enforcement Agents.
Despite the relaxed movement, all markets and commercial establishments will remain closed during the exercise hours to encourage maximum participation. Environmental health officers, security agents, and NGOs will oversee the process to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
The Commissioner reiterated that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility, urging all residents to embrace the exercise.
She noted that a cleaner environment, not only promotes health but also ensures a safer and more sustainable future for everyone.
