MENTOR PUPILS UNDER YOUR CARE TOWARDS ATTAINING ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE -EKITI TESCOM BOSS

The Chairman of Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission {TESCOM}, Mrs Rhoda Ojo has urged Teachers of public secondary schools in the State to see themselves not merely as teachers but also as parents, guardians and mentors employed by government to guide students towards attaining academic excellence and having a bright future.

The TESCOM Boss gave the charge during the week-long resumption monitoring of students and teachers in schools for the Second Term of the 2025 /26 Academic Session after the 3-week Christmas / New Year holiday

Mrs Ojo, who expressed displeasure with the low turn out of students in some of the schools visited, urged the schools management to reach out to parents and guardians of the affected students through the School Based Management Committees {SBMCs} and Parents Teachers Association{PTAs} on the need for their children and wards to resume on time.
She directed the schools management to conduct resumption tests for students that have resumed in order to assess their readiness for learning in the new term.

The TESCOM Chairman noted that students have no excuse for late resumption as education is completely free in all public primary and secondary schools in the State.

At Isan Secondary School, Isan Ekiti, Mrs Ojo was conducted round the facilities provided under the Federal Government education intervention schemes and State Government- initiated /World Bank-assisted Adolescent Girls Initiatives for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Programme located in the school.

She directed the school authority to optimally utilize the ICT equipment and other facilities recently installed in the school to improve learning in the school.

At Ayede Grammar School, Ayede Ekiti, the TESCOM Chairman commended the school management for keeping the premises tidy ,but urged the security guards in the school to be more alert to their duties.

While addressing the few final year students present during the visit, Mrs Ojo admonished them to study hard for their external examinations coming up in a couple of months.

She reminded them of the state government’s zero tolerance for examination malpractices, adding that measures have been put in place to prevent any form of fraudulent practices during the upcoming examination season.

In his contributions, the Permanent Secretary, Mr Michael Boluwade warned the newly recruited teachers in the schools visited to be up and doing in their new assignment as government would not tolerate indolence and truancy on their part.

Mr Boluwade called on them to cooperate with the management and other staff in the various schools to guarantee peace and progress, warning that any act of indiscipline among them would attract appropriate sanctions.

The Permanent Secretary however directed staff that were not in the schools during the visit to report to the commission.
