Manchester United have sacked head coach Ruben Amorim after just 14 months in charge.
The club announced his departure on Monday, January 5 2026 following a 1‑1 draw with Leeds United the previous day.
Amorim, who was appointed in November 2024, led United to the Europa League final in Bilbao but finished the 2024/25 season in 15th place in the Premier League.
In his 63 games across all competitions, he won only 24 (38 % win rate) – the lowest of any United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
The club’s leadership, including CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, cited a “breakdown in relations” and said the change would give the team “the best opportunity for the highest possible Premier League finish.”
Former United midfielder Darren Fletcher will take over as interim manager while a permanent replacement is sought. Meanwhile,Amorim has been thanked for his contribution and wished well for the future.
